These mats are a fantastic way to help teach emotion understanding to a range of students. Work on body language, causes, common things people say when feeling that emotion, and facial expressions. The packet includes 7 different feelings mats and suggestions for a wide range of ways to use the materials, from role plays to playdough based activities!
18 different task cards! Each card has a situation and 4 pictured emotions. Children must choose which feeling they would have in the situation. Includes suggestions on multiple ways to use the cards, including individually and in groups, as well as how to teach perspective-taking!
Helping students and clients learn about emotions can be complicated. Students are all at different levels of skill, and it can be tricky to keep a large set of supplies with you while you move from child to child. With this 5-in-1 folder, you can use a single set of materials with a wide range of students. Before using the materials, print, laminate, and cut out all the cards. Then, using Velcro, arrange them as shown in the illustration, so they all fit in one folder.
This packet contains 5 different step-by-step Lego playbooks. Students who struggle to play appropriately with toys often are more successful when using a playbook to show them what to do, one step at a time. This packet includes playbooks to show students who to build a 4-piece structure, 8-piece structure, 14-piece structure, 15-piece structure, and 16-piece structure. Each playbook has a final page that visually lets the student know they’re done. The longer playbooks can easily be modified, if necessary, but removing some pages to create additional simpler structures until the student is ready for the more complex structures. These work great for students who aren’t quite ready to independently follow the visual instructions that come with Legos, but who like playing with Lego.
Teaching conversations to students and clients can be difficult. Everyone is at a different level, and it can be difficult to keep track of so many different materials, especially when you’re working with children back to back. Wouldn’t it be great to have one easy-to-carry visual support that could work with a wide variety of children at a range of levels? That was the inspiration between the 5-in-1 Conversation Folder. Work with a wide range of children using one multi-functional folder of supports
When students struggle to play games, either because they need extra support understanding the rules or because of their language skills, visual rules can help! This packet includes rules for 7 common games: Go Fish, Twister, Tic-Tac-Toe, Old Maid, Kerplunk, Perfection, and Guess Who. It also includes visual prompt pages to help students ask the appropriate questions for Guess Who and Headbandz!
Teaching any skill becomes more fun for students when it feels like a game. Kids may complain about reviewing math facts, but make it a game-show style quiz and everyone gets engaged. Reviewing spelling words may draw groans from the class, but putting them in teams and having a competition makes it exciting! The same is true for social skills. Reviewing social skills is infinitely more exciting when it feels like a game, and what game is more universally beloved than Bingo?
The following pages have a variety of Bingo boards that you can use for a range of skills. Inside you’ll find 6 different Bingo boards, with multiple ways to play each to keep them entertaining for a range of students. Instructions for the boards are at the beginning of each section.
When you’re ready to use the boards, consider laminating them and using dry-erase markers so they can be reused for years.
Help children learn about making good choices through an interactive story. Billy Butterfly encounters 4 different scenarios when flying around the garden. In each situation, Billy asks the reader for help and offers 2 possible choices. Children can tell Billy which choice is the best choice to help the story continue. Choice pages are great places for teachers and therapists to stop the story and talk with children about similar situations they may have encountered. They can also help children think through what would happen if Billy picked each option.
Art activities can be a fun way to build a variety of skills in students. Sometimes, however, the multi-step process of art projects can make them difficult for some students.
Included in this packet are 11 step by step visual supports for art projects. Each project not only has a full-color visual support, but also includes a teacher information card to attach to the back of the support. These cards include all necessary supplies, any advanced prep that should be done, as well as step by step written instructions.
Many of our students struggle with being flexible in their thinking. This lack of flexibility can impact children in a lot of problematic ways. Students who are inflexible thinkers often struggle with social interactions, they may be anxious about handling changes, or easily frustrated when things don’t go as planned. Finding a variety of ways to practice those skills can be difficult, though. The items in this 5-in-1 folder are designed to provide you with multiple ways to build flexible thinking skills in students of all ages and at all levels. Before using the materials, print, laminate, and cut out all the cards. Then, using Velcro, arrange them as shown in the illustration, so they all fit in one folder.
Help children learn about making friends and social skills through an interactive story. Dagwood the Dog encounters 4 different scenarios when going out to play. In each situation, Dagwood the Dog asks the reader for help and offers 3 possible choices. Children can tell Dagwood which choice is the best choice to help him earn a dog treat and make the story continue. Choice pages are great places for teachers and therapists to stop the story and talk with children about similar situations they may have encountered. They can also help children think through what would happen if Dagwood the Dog picked each option.
Using rewards can be an essential and effective way to help students be successful. They help children understand expectations and motivate them to complete non-preferred tasks. Because the most appropriate reward board may vary depending on the child, the skill, and the reward, a wide variety of options have been included in this packet. Additionally, each reward sheet or board is included twice. The first time it has information included about the various sections on the board, the reasons for each section, and ways to modify it for the students you have. The second version of each board is for you to copy and print, if you want to use it exactly as is. The second copy of each board also has a few blanks included, however, to allow some personalization. All sample boards are located first, then all blank boards are at the back.
